About U3A
The
word 'university' is used to signify the meeting of groups of people
with common interests. Our group reflects the interests of its
members and covers the widest possible range of educational,
cultural, recreational, physical and social subjects. It is a
self-help organisation and depends on group leaders volunteering as to
when and how these interests are offered.
The first organisation in Britain involving
learning for people no longer in full-time employment was started in
1982 as part of the 'Third Age Trust'.
Saltburn District U3A became an
independent group within the UK U3A in April 2005 and obtained
charitable status in May 2005 (No.1190691). Currently (March 2010) the group has over 600 members who are drawn from a wide area of
East Cleveland, including Saltburn, Marske, New Marske, Loftus, Skelton,
Easington, Brotton, Redcar and Guisborough. |
