Welcome to Saltburn District University of the Third Age

About U3A

The word 'university' is used in its general sense to signify the meeting of groups of people with common interests.  Our U3A reflects the interests of its members and covers the widest possible range  of educational, cultural, recreational, physical and social subjects.    It is a self-help organisation and depends on group leaders volunteering as to when and how these interests are offered. The first organisation in Britain involving learning for people no longer in full-time employment was started in 1982 as part of the 'Third Age Trust'.

Saltburn District U3A became an independent group within the UK U3A in April 2005 and obtained charitable status in May 2005 (No.1190691).  Currently (September 2011) the group has over 700 members who are drawn from a wide area of East Cleveland, including Saltburn, Marske, New Marske, Loftus, Skelton, Easington, Brotton and Redcar.

Membership runs from 1st April to 31st March and the annual subscription is £7. Courses cost from £1 to £1.50 per session.    There are around fifty groups in Saltburn District U3A and most have between ten to twenty members attending a session.  There are, however, a number of larger groups in the organisation.
If you are retired, semi-retired, or are planning to retire and are wondering what to do with your time, why not join us.  We are a lively and friendly organisation and we offer a wide range of creative, leisure and study groups.
You will find a list of groups and what they have to offer on our groups page and a list of where and when on our curriculum page.
